Safe to Wait SOP for Band 3 HCAs (S76)
The rationale for introducing a “Safe to Wait” process is, for when patients present to UTC Services, the first point of contact will usually be the Reception/HCA staff. The Safe to Wait Guidance will be undertaken by Health Care Assistant (Band 3) staff following specific training and a period of demonstrating competence for the assessment of patients attending the UTCs with specific conditions/injuries. This will ensure that Band 3 HCA’s are aware of “Red Flag Signs”, and symptoms that indicate that someone presenting at the unit may require immediate or urgent attention.

Sudbury Prison Patients referred to DCHS Outpatient Therapy, MSK & Podiatry Services (S69)
When patients from Sudbury Prison are referred from secondary care to Out Patient therapy, MSK or Podiatry, for example post-operative patients, they occasionally require a chaperone. Sudbury prison is a category D prison. Some prisoners will need one officer to accompany them whilst on probation. Prisoners may be able to attend appointments alone in line with prison risk assessment. Prisoners requiring two officers should not be seen in the department as advised by Head of Security at Sudbury Prison
Clinical Decision Making Toolkit (G73)
As practitioners, we are tasked with making clinical decisions with patients and clients many times during their health and care journey. Clinical decision making involves a balanced understanding of the person, your experience, awareness, knowledge and information gathering, using appropriate assessment tools, your colleagues and evidence-based best practice to guide you. It is about “joining the dots” to make an informed decision.
