Safe to Wait SOP for Band 3 HCAs (S76)
The rationale for introducing a “Safe to Wait” process is, for when patients present to UTC Services, the first point of contact will usually be the Reception/HCA staff. The Safe to Wait Guidance will be undertaken by Health Care Assistant (Band 3) staff following specific training and a period of demonstrating competence for the assessment of patients attending the UTCs with specific conditions/injuries. This will ensure that Band 3 HCA’s are aware of “Red Flag Signs”, and symptoms that indicate that someone presenting at the unit may require immediate or urgent attention.

Antenatal Contact Guidelines (G209)
This Best Practice Guidance gives clear guidance on the minimum standard expected of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors) when delivering an antenatal contact. It outlines the goal and essential components of the Antenatal contact offered during pregnancy to all families in Derbyshire. This document also supports a commitment to ensure evidence-based tools and training are embedded within practice, supporting the national commissioning for outcomes recommendations, and offering assurance that the service is focused on personalised and needs based care.
Transfers in and the New to Area Assessment Guidelines (G270)
This guidance supports health visiting and admin teams when children transfer into or within Derbyshire. It gives clear guidance on the minimum standard expected of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors) when undertaking a new to area contact. It outlines the goals and essential components of the new to area contact offered to all families moving into Derbyshire. This document also supports a commitment to ensure evidence-based tools and training are embedded within practice, supporting the national commissioning for outcomes recommendations and offering assurance that the service is focused on personalised and needs-based care. It is expected that Specialist Community Public Health Nurses employed by Derbyshire Community Health Services (DCHS) exercise professional judgement and have clear, documented evidence of the rationale for their decision making if they feel that it is not in the family’s or child’s interest to follow the Best Practice Guidance or policy has not been followed. It is also expected that Specialist Community Public Health Nurses exercise sound professional judgement (following their assessment) in deciding whether or not a client/family should receive additional support and intervention. This Best Practice Guidance should be used in conjunction with other DCHS Children’s and DCHS Trust policies along with The NMC Code.
