Diabetes Education programmes

We have two different education programmes for people in Derby and Derbyshire. These are X-PERT Diabetes and Diabetes and You. Both programmes are delivered and led by trained NHS Diabetes Educators.

X-PERT Diabetes is our recommended course.  It is delivered online or face-to-face. Each session lasts 2 hours and there is one session a week over 6 weeks and covers:

  • The impact of being diagnosed with diabetes. 
  • How food affects your diabetes.
  • Healthy eating.
  • Medication. 
  • The positive effects of being active. 
  • Planning your diabetes care.
  • Local services available to support your own health goals. 

Diabetes and You is a half day course delivered face to face from a local NHS or community centre. It is not suitable for patients who are taking insulin or have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes longer than 5 years.

You need to be referred by your GP practice to attend these programmes.

  • It is hosted using Microsoft Teams.
