Diabetes Education programmes
If you have type 2 diabetes, attending an education course is an important part of your treatment plan. The course will help you to understand your condition. This means you can learn how to control it and have the best quality of life possible.
We have two different education programme for people in Derby and Derbyshire. These are X-PERT Diabetes and Diabetes and You.
X-PERT Diabetes is our recommended course. It is delivered online or face-to-face and covers:
- The impact of being diagnosed with diabetes.
- How food affects your diabetes.
- Healthy eating.
- Medication.
- The positive effects of being active.
- Planning your diabetes care.
- Local services available to support your own health goals.
Diabetes and You is a half day course and only suitable for those who have limited time to attend our X-PERT Diabetes sessions.
The courses are run by trained diabetes educators. They will help you to understand your condition and answer some of the questions you may have.

Our most popular course. You can join from your own home.

You will need internet access and either a laptop, computer or smartphone.

Each session lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.

There is one session a week for six weeks.

Group session led by a trained Diabetes Educator.

Held at a local NHS or community centre.

Each session lasts 2 hours 30 minutes.
- There is one session a week for six weeks.
- Group session led by a trained Diabetes Educator.

- What is diabetes and how it affects you.
- Ways to work towards needing less medication.
- Weight loss approaches.
- Carbohydrates and diabetes.
- How to set goals to help control your diabetes.

Diabetes and You
Diabetes and You
Diabetes and You is an overview course for people who do not have the time to do the full recommended course. It is not recommended for people who are taking insulin.
- It is half a day and is a group-based programme.
- It is delivered face-to-face near to where you live.
- This course is led by qualified staff.
