Our Services

Our team of Podiatrists, Podiatry Assistants and Apprentices are dealing with an ever-increasing number of patients with complex needs that affect their feet. The service, therefore, aims to provide high quality intervention for those individuals considered to be at greatest need, to prevent further complications.

We diagnose, treat, and manage a range of foot conditions where there is a medical need, including:

  • Diabetic patients with a foot problem.

  • Those with a foot problem and a long-term medical condition that could lead to foot ulceration or amputation. Some people are at higher risk of developing problems with their feet. This includes;

    • People with diabetes.
    • Those who have problems with the nerve and blood supply to their feet.
    • Those with reduced immune systems.

  • In growing and painful deformed nails (You will be managed and then discharged once your treatment is completed).

  • Children with foot pain

  • Assessment and treatment of foot & ankle musculoskeletal problems that limit or prevent normal activity.

  • Open wounds below the ankle for 4 weeks or longer.

We are unable to offer treatment routinely:

  • If you are unable to cut your own nails.

  • You have fungal nail(s), dry skin, athlete’s foot, or verruca - All these conditions can be managed with over-the-counter treatments, please speak to your pharmacist or GP.

  • You have diabetes but do not have any other concerns with your feet.

  • You have an alignment concern with the feet or toes, which causes no pain. For example, pain free bunions, hammer toes or flat feet/fallen arches.

  • Your pain or problem is related to certain footwear.

The Community Podiatry team have been rolling out a new way of working to help more people access help and advice. These Group Education sessions (GES) have been for specific Heel Pain and Forefoot Pain conditions.

The responses from our patients have been very positive with some patients saying-

  • ‘I now have a better understanding of my condition and can understand why things I have tried in the past haven't worked.'
  • ‘I got so much more from the session than I expected’.

And much more.

COVID-19 caused a large backlog on the podiatry waiting list. This, along with high demand for our services, has created unprecedented pressure on our service. This means that we have had to consider how we can best meet the needs of our most clinically vulnerable patients.

Currently, low risk patients are being placed on a waiting list. This list is being regularly monitored, and we are keeping people on the list informed about when they should expect to receive an appointment.

You can refer yourself for an assessment with the community podiatry service by completing our online self-referral form, or via telephone. For information about self-referrals, please click here.

Alternatively, your GP or other healthcare professional can also refer you to our service.
