Islamophobic and racist violence – support for you
The appalling scenes we’re seeing in the media across our towns and cities continue to shock us all, and we’re committed to putting any necessary support measures in place for everyone at DCHS.
- All people managers must check in with their teams as a priority, have personalised conversations, and discuss what support might be appropriate.
- Please make use of this dynamic risk assessment, designed to support us all to quickly identify, evaluate, and respond to changing circumstances. It’s been tailored to support staff safety given the ongoing Islamophobic and racist violence across the country.
- We also have a supply of Zecure employee safety devices. They have panic alarm and recording functionality and are linked to a 24/7 monitoring centre. The devices can be accessed via Declan Moore, head of health and safety: Declan.moore1@nhs.net, or 07502 590837.
- If any member of staff is confronted with racial abuse or indeed any form of discrimination, then our zero-tolerance policy applies, and you are empowered and encouraged to walk away and must report it immediately. The message is clear – we have your back, and we will withdraw service from any patient displaying such behaviours.
- Please print and display this Zero Acceptance poster in DCHS sites.
- It goes without saying that any member of staff found to be involved in or propagating any such behaviour will face immediate disciplinary action.
- Please contact our excellent Resolve staff support service if you require further emotional or psychological support.
We pride ourselves on creating a culture of belonging in DCHS, and improving our awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion. We're one team and stronger together, and we’re proud that people from nearly 200 countries work in the NHS today.
