About us

All our clinicians provide routine assessment and treatment advice about falls prevention. Your clinician will discuss with you your individual circumstances and seek to understand what support you would like to reduce the likelihood of a fall and or injury.

We provide information individual to you about keeping your home environment safe, the benefits of physical activity and reducing the impact of physical and/or mental illness.

We also offer enhanced (in-depth) falls assessments which might be beneficial if you have experienced:

  • Three or more falls within 12 months
  • Noticed changes to your walking or balance which has caused you to fall
  • Attended hospital and been admitted for treatment due to a fall

The in-depth assessments take place in a patient’s home or an outpatient setting. They are usually carried out by a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or community nurse.

We provide enhanced rehabilitation for individuals who wish to improve their strength and balance with our ‘Stay Steady’ exercise groups. These groups consist of researched chair based and standing exercises, personal goal setting and education. We work closely with community exercise providers to support you to continue to exercise safely and long term.

All clinical teams across DCHS provide routine assessment and treatment advice related to falls prevention.

Enhanced services are provided by integrated community teams and specialist services, including the day unit at Babington Hospital.

If you are concerned about falling or losing your balance, please contact a health professional.

Our falls prevention assessment and advice service is available for any DCHS patient. Your health professional will be very happy to answer your questions.

Access to the enhanced falls assessments is by GP or health professional referral.  If you think you would benefit from this service, please speak to your GP or any other health professional.

Each locality team is able to provide local service information. Please contact the relevant team to find out more.
