The Derbyshire Community Health Services integrated facilities management logistics team organised a vanload of out-of-date medical equipment to go to a charity supporting Ukrainian front-line medical facilities and rescue services.

All the items had been posted on Warp-it which helps save on the cost of the disposal of items while finding new homes for them elsewhere.

Logistics team colleagues Jane Bull and India Ogden-Smith are pictured helping to load the van with Matthew Cole from the charity North Norfolk Aid for Ukraine. Matthew claimed the items that can no longer be used in the NHS via Warp-it, including uniforms, scissors, syringes, dressings and bandages, blood transfusion kits, goggles, feeding tubes, gloves, disposable kidney bowls, compression wrap, blood pressure cuffs, compression stockings and more.

Jane Bull, recently appointed logistics team manager, said:

“Matt and his wife leave for the next aid trip end of September, we have all worked together to ensure these items were ready for collect by the charity ensuring they leave for Ukraine on time. They are firstly taken to Berlin, from where all equipment is sent to the appropriate front-line area.

Jane added:

“Matt has also asked if we could get the message out to all clinical teams and encourage them to post on Warp-it they have any medical items, dressings or any equipment which is no longer suitable for use here. Anything that is out-of-date will be used on the front-line. Their main hospitals are well stocked. I think this is a great example of what good can be achieved when we all work together. This donation will also save money and support sustainability by cutting back on waste and the disposal of waste.”

A special mention for Jayne Kimberley, who retired from DCHS last week, who made the first contact with Matthew and to Becky Lynch the Warp-it account manager who is also helping co-ordinate the items through Warp-it.
