Open event spotlights Walton Hospital’s upcoming diagnostic service
An information event, open to all, is being hosted at Chesterfield’s Walton Hospital on Thursday 28 November to share plans and details of the new £5.2m community diagnostic centre, due to open in mid-2025.
Diggers are currently on site laying the groundwork for the construction of the brand-new purpose-designed diagnostic centre, which will see Walton Hospital become one of just four diagnostic hubs, located in the heart of Derbyshire communities, for a range of high-tech diagnostic tests.
This is the latest phase in the transformation of Walton Hospital to keep pace with changes in healthcare and the need to ensure patients can receive the earliest possible diagnoses for their health concerns, without the need to travel to big acute hospitals, and using the latest technology available.
The information event is open to all, between 11am and 2pm on Thursday 28 November, in the lobby of the hospital dining room. Visitors arriving on site should follow signs to the Peter McCarthy Suite and main entrance and park in the lower hospital car park. The dining room is signposted from the main entrance. Parking is free. Disabled parking spaces are located near the entrance to the Peter McCarthy Suite.

At the event, you’ll learn about the services available within the newly emerging community diagnostic centres across Derbyshire and the positive impact they are beginning to have for local patients. It means patients are offered access to a range of quicker and easier diagnostic tests which in previous years were only available at bigger city hospitals. These include MRI and CT scans, as well as x-rays, ultrasound and other diagnostics.
This event is being hosted by Derbyshire Community Health Services and Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts in partnership as a joint initiative on the Walton Hospital site.
There’s no need to book - just turn up. There will be displays and people to talk to who can answer questions, and handout materials for you to take away. Visitors to the event can also vote on their choice of artwork options, from various photographic impressions of the local landscape, with the most popular choices to be displayed in Walton Hospital’s new diagnostic centre. The hospital dining room has recently opened and offers a daily menu for anyone combining a visit to the information event with a lunch stop too.
