Introducing pronouns on ID badges

At DCHS we place a great deal of importance on helping everyone to feel comfortable to be themselves at work. One of the ways in which we can help everyone to feel valued for who they are is to ensure we use the right pronouns when we are talking with them. You may want to be known as he, she, they or choose your own pronoun – it is a fundamental part of who you are.

Sharing our pronouns, and encouraging others to get used to doing so, shows that we all welcome, encourage, support and accept diversity. Using an individual’s correct pronoun is important as it validates their identity.

We have recently introduced the option for new starters to DCHS to have their pronouns included on their work ID badge, alongside their name and job title. Over the coming months, this option will be made available to all staff. We hope you will take up the option - it will help us to address you correctly and is an important step in helping us to create a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported.

Further details will be made available at a later date about how to order your new badge. This will be a big project so please be patient and understanding; we will work to offer everyone the option as quickly as we can.

If you’d like more details about pronouns, what they are and what they mean, we have included some links below.

We already encourage our colleagues to include their pronouns on their email signatures and in introductions with colleagues, if you would like more information on this please click here:

Here’s why I include pronouns in my email signature and see the image and wording (right) about how to include them in your DCHS email signature.

Thank you.
