The Derbyshire ‘Mid-level programme for practicing managers and leaders’

We are pleased to announce the launch of a learning programme for mid-level leaders and managers working across both Derbyshire Healthcare and Derbyshire Community Health Care Trusts.

The programme

The programme will comprise of 6 core face to face elements which will be delivered at the North Wingfield Community Centre in North Derbyshire. Attendance at all six, as well as attendance at a minimum of 3 bitesize online sessions over the 9-month duration is a requirement for completion.

These 6 core elements include:

  • Fostering Civility, Respect, and Inclusivity in Our Culture
  • Navigating Organisational Dynamics: Systems Thinking and Structural Insights

Applications are welcomed from colleagues who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Directly manage people who manage others (i.e. one step beyond first-line management).
  • Lead a project, pathway or service across a network or system.
  • Lead teams of professionals (even on a temporary basis) or manage complex programmes, projects and initiatives between different professional groups.

Participants must also have approval from a senior manager to attend; we suggest protecting some time with your manager for participation and engagement in a career conversation using the Scope for Growth toolkit to aid your preparation for the programme.

Please note that there are no specific pay band requirements as we are looking at position and influence of course participants within the organisation.

The programme will require attendance at 6 mandatory full day face to face sessions and a minimum of 3 online bitesize sessions. In addition to this, there is an expectation that participants will:

  • Take part in action learning sets, with the first taking place at the inaugural event
  • Complete 2 short pieces of reflective writing (700 words) to be completed within the programme timeframe
  • 360 feedback is an offer, but is not mandatory
  • A ‘Scope for Growth’ career conversation with your line manager is optional

The programme will provide an opportunity to;

  • Improve self-awareness and build confidence, for both self and others
  • Develop your skills as an inclusive manager and effective communicator
  • Broaden insights and awareness of Systems thinking
  • Build a supportive network of peers across the two organisations
  • Step back from the daily pressures to focus on yourself and your team development
  • Engage with senior leaders in conversations about your career path and role.
  • Engage with Executive level colleagues offering support to the programme
  • Continued connection with peers post programme via action learning groups

The programme will take a total of 10 working days over a nine-month period, incorporating:

  • Six full days for mandatory sessions
  • Three half days for online sessions, minimum
  • Minimum 3 action learning sets (2-3 hours each)
  • One day to write up two short pieces of reflective writing
