Parking at Babington Hospital in Belper will be severely limited from Wednesday 8 July until Friday 24 July for essential car park resurfacing and entrance widening work to take place ahead of the opening of the new Babington Health Centre in August.
Patients, visitors and NHS staff will experience some short-term but significant disruption to parking and access at the Babington site as final preparations for the opening of the new health centre (seen here in an architect’s impression) are underway.
From Wednesday 8 July until Friday 24 July, contractors will be carrying out essential entrance widening and resurfacing works around the new health centre. During this period, there will be no staff parking available on site.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, which runs services at Babington Hospital and is responsible for building the adjacent new health centre, said: “We appreciate this will cause some short-term disruption and we’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us.
“We are nearing the completion of this fantastic new health centre. The resurfacing and entrance widening are some of the final steps we need to take with our contractors Henry Brothers are we look forward to being able to open the new health centre for patient care. We’d ask people to avoid unnecessary visits to Babington for the next couple of weeks.”
These final works are an important milestone ahead of the opening of the new health centre on 17 August, when outpatient appointments currently delivered at Babington Hospital will move into the new building, providing modern, purpose-built facilities for local communities.
Severn Trent are also starting unrelated work on the A6 outside the site, which is expected to continue throughout July to September, with temporary one-way traffic lights operating for some of this time.
