Ripley Hospital’s League of Friends has provided nearly £3m to Ripley Hospital in the past 50 years and now the latest transformation to improve hospital facilities is well underway.
Earlier this summer, work started on a £225,000 scheme to create a modern, fit-for-purpose neurotherapy department while also improving occupational therapy (OT) and physiotherapy facilities.
The complexity of the building scheme, in a working hospital and undertaken around the ongoing patient care, has seen the project organised into different phases so that sections of the hospital are out of action at different times while the improvement work is underway.
We can now report that phase one’s consultation rooms are completed and are greatly enhancing the availability and suitability of clinical rooms for outpatient care in the hospital.
Operational coordinator at Ripley Hospital, Jenny Chambers, said: “Phase two began on 24 August and is well underway with the walls already down to extend clinic spaces and fit double doors to allow equipment to be moved around more effectively.”
The improvements are designed to ensure patients receive care in environments that meet current NHS standards for infection prevention, health and safety, and ease of access for those with reduced mobility by creating wider doorways.
This latest investment, which is due for completion in September, will bring together the hospital's neurotherapy service into a dedicated department, replacing the current arrangement where teams work across several rooms in different parts of the site.
The new layout will improve collaboration between clinicians, create additional treatment space and make services easier for patients to access.
