The new Babington Health Centre is seeing its very first patients on Monday 17 August. Babington Health Centre is a major investment in health services for Belper, delivering a modern and welcoming space that will benefit local people for years to come.
The new £15 million health centre has been built on the site of the former Belper Clinic and provides a base for all the outpatient services which have previously been provided at the neighbouring Babington Hospital. The hospital building, which started life as a workhouse, is being decommissioned as it has reached the end of its suitability as a base for modern healthcare.
On Friday 14 August, moving in of clinical and support services was underway all day. We captured some of this busy activity on camera, as you can see. For the first 24 hours, some patients will continue to be seen in the hospital as part of a phased approach to the full transfer into the new building.
